About Omar Brest
I was born in 1991, in Fuerte Apache. My first encounter with photography came from exploring the neighborhood and the slum, walking through alleys and tunnels, living with the raw and the beautiful at the same time. I learned to see there, where everything is intense, where reality doesn’t wear a mask. When the neighborhood started feeling too small, I moved toward the city of Buenos Aires. I needed other landscapes, other tensions. But that first gaze, the one from the beginning, never left.
My work grows from that journey. I work with what’s already there—on the street, at the edge, in the margins. I’m not after the spectacular, but what hides in plain sight. I'm drawn to the rough pulse of Buenos Aires, its chaos, its twisted beauty. My photography is my way of being in that place—of confronting it and embracing it at once.
